We follow the law
We at NWNS strive to comply with all the laws that apply to our work including laws that apply internationally as for example the UK Bribery Act and US Foreign and Corrupt Practices Act.
In many countries we operate under licensed conditions or other regulations that may impose obligations, restrict what we can do, or mean we have to tell a government what we’re doing. All people working with NWNS including staff, field support and our clients need to be aware of – and comply with – any regulation that applies to our work.
As any (global) company, we need to be careful about where we trade and who we trade with. This includes complying with embargoes and sanctions which have been imposed on certain countries, groups of countries, or individuals.
NWNS is committed to conducting its business with honesty and integrity and in compliance with the laws of all jurisdictions in which NWNS is active.

NWNS is committed to carrying on business in accordance with the highest ethical standards. This includes complying with all applicable trade sanctions and financial regulations (Sanctions Laws) in the countries in which we operate.

The GDPR aims primarily to give control to individuals over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU. As the GDPR is a regulation, not a directive, it is directly binding and applicable. Despite being a globally operating company, NWNS has adopted the GDPR because the regulation became a model for many national laws outside EU.

Inspired by one of our customers: “Speak Up” is a confidential hotline that anyone who works for, with, or on behalf of NWNS can call, whatever country they work in. You can also raise your concern online and anonymously if you prefer, subject to local law.
Using “Speak Up” is often the best and safest way to raise a sensitive ethical issue with someone who isn’t connected to your team.
We know it can take courage to speak up. We’ll do whatever we can to support and protect you. And we won’t let anyone retaliate against you for reporting your concerns. If someone tries to deter you from speaking up that’s a disciplinary offence in itself and we’ll deal with it seriously. “Speak Up” contact details.
Operating with Integrity
NWNS’s high ethical standards and our Code of Conduct provides guidance for dealing with customers, suppliers, other employees, competitors and the public with integrity and in an ethical and appropriate manner.
Our company respects international social compliance and environmental principles aimed at promoting and protecting human rights and the environment. Our policies align with the goals of several international standards, including the International Labor Organisation’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. These values are formalised in our Human Rights in Employment Policy and Instructions.
NWNS’s Corporate Social Compliance team provides support to our business for integrating human rights into our owned and contracted operations, and advises on stakeholder interactions based on the Code of Conduct and International Corporate Social Responsibility standards. Should you have any questions regarding Social Compliance, please contact us at compliance-at-nwns.org
We Respect Human Rights And Each Other
Human rights recognize everyone’s inherent dignity and equality, no matter who they are or where they live. So we think particularly carefully about the rights of our employees, workers in our supply chain, our customers and the wider communities where we operate. We only want to work with people who choose to work freely, with rights to equal opportunity, freedom of association and collective bargaining.
Anyone at any time can report concerns about modern slavery to the Modern Slavery Helpline and Resource Centre online at http://www.modernslaveryhelpline.org.
Fair Competition
We compete vigorously but fairly, being honest, respectful and trustworthy in all our dealings. There’s nothing wrong with using every resource we have to gain a legitimate competitive edge: our people, our knowledge, our experience. But we always act ethically in line with our values, policies, the law and our regulatory obligations.
We believe in free markets. That means we respect the rights of our competitors to carry on their business, and we don’t pressure or coerce our customers into choosing us over our competitors.
We can only make public statements about other companies as long as they’re accurate, up-to-date and relevant, and we comply with our regulatory obligations and the law in terms of where we get our information.
But we’d rather talk about our own strengths than talk about our competitors.
NWNS Code of Conduct on Corruption & Bribery
We don’t tolerate bribery and corruption.
NWNS is committed to conducting its business with honesty and integrity and in compliance with the laws of all jurisdictions in which NWNS is active. Two laws of particular importance are the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the UK Bribery Act 2010. NWNS is also required to comply with the World Bank’s Anti-Corruption Guidelines, the United Nations Convention on Corruption, and the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions. To ensure compliance with these standards and laws NWNS has adopted this Code of Conduct on Corruption and Bribery. The full version can be downloaded as pdf. It may happen that we ask our partners in the field to confirm compliance with our Code of Conduct. If not already covered by a partner agreement, NWNS will use the online Ethical Self-certification tool especially developed for this purpose.
All NWNS staff is certified according to international standards established by the United Nations.
NWNS Gifts & Hospitality Policy
Gifts and hospitality can be a normal and healthy part of building business relationships. But as NWNS, we never offer or accept gifts, payments or hospitality to encourage or reward a decision. We very well understand that different cultures have different attitudes to what’s acceptable. But as an international business serving prime customers, we need to respect these differences, while staying true to our ethics code. Therefore, we’ve implemented a gifts and hospitality policy to help anyone involved to work out what we believe is or isn’t okay.
NWNS Global Sanctions Policy
As a company, we are committed to carrying on business in accordance with the highest ethical standards. This includes complying with all applicable trade sanctions and financial regulations (Sanctions Laws) in the countries in which we operate.
To this end, NWNS will comply with all economic and trade sanctions applicable to our business activities.
This Policy applies to NWNS’s operations globally, including directors, officers, employees, contractors, and other third parties acting on behalf of the foregoing.
Sanctions are the regulatory restrictions applicable to dealings with certain countries/territories, governments, groups, entities, individuals, or controlled goods or services. The nature and extent of these restrictions may vary (i.e. limitations on import/export, controls on specific goods and services, restrictions on financial operations, etc.), and it is important that all parties involved understand the business implications.
